Gallant Gold Media LLC is my second start-up. It’s exciting to find that the proverbial adage is true, the second time around is much better than the first, probably because I’m that much wiser. Learning from experience, major traumatic experience actually, is a game-changer.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~Mark Twain

I founded my first start-up, Huckleberry Press, 26 years ago, when I was so young and had a two year old son. I managed to build the company by channelling my overwhelming trauma of being a gun violence survivor and brazenly escaping the danger with my then one year old son. But those were tumultuous years. And then 9/11 happened. Just ten days prior to that horrific day, my son had been abducted in a foreign country. I feel incredibly blessed that the American Embassy in London was exceptional, and did everything by the book, and guided me expertly along this hellacious journey. My son and I were reunited within four months and we immediately returned to the United States.

But the months following our return were extremely chaotic. All my big plans for my six year old company had to eventually be put on hold. I made the bold decision to relocate my son and I to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I found a full time job and we soon prospered.

The years rolled on…

Just before my father passed away on July 3, 2018, he clutched my hand and wouldn’t let it go until I promised I would try again. He was adamant that I make that old, faded dream of mine come true. That I dust off the company I had shelved all those years ago, and bring it back to life.⭐︎
